One Life Left

Definitely the UK's favourite radio show (sort of) about videogames.

Commissioned by London’s award-winning Resonance 104.4 FM in early 2006, One Life Left was only meant to run for six episodes.

Take that, The Man because now, somewhere around one hundred and fifty episodes later, it’s in its seventh season and grown from humbling, terrified, fumbling beginnings into one of the station’s most valued shows.

Take THAT, The Man. Also take that, British radio standards.

One Life Left Returns!

September 2nd, 2013 Posted by

We’re excited! Here’s the press release if you like “that sort of thing”. Tonight’s show will be a show zero of sorts, a catch-up with the team over some wine and nibbles, except without the food and alcohol because we’re not allowed to eat or drink on air. But you can. We expect you to! It’s a celebration and if it doesn’t end in hangovers and regret we’ll all have done something wrong. Anyway, that press release: TFI Monday: One Life Left returns tonight Resonance 104.4 FM’s award-winning radio show returns this evening – listen live on air, online or […]

Retirement of the Bioware Doctors

November 16th, 2012 Posted by

Hello All, I’ve written a little something on Gamasutra to mark the retirement of Dr. Greg Zeschuk and Dr. Ray Muzyka. They were a big inspiration for me, and hopefully one day they’ll end up on OLL for an exclusive interview! http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/AdamDmytriw/20120927/178359/   Cheers, Dr Av

Trauma Center

October 26th, 2012 Posted by

We’ve never really showcased our contributors before have we? Well, we guess there was the OLL G-oll-d specials, but they were about our older contributors. Doctor Avatar only came on the scene in 2009. So we thought, why don’t we put some of his classic contributions on an internet page for posterity? Dr. Adam Avatar is a Canadian medical student. He began his tenure as OLL medical consultant while studying at Uni. Oxford in 2009, and has remained on-call ever since. Gaming has taught him everything from minimally-invasive surgery to clinical morality. He is a former staff writer for Fragtacular, […]

Take me to the Art Academy

August 6th, 2012 Posted by

I am no good at art. Countless Ann Arts and an art teacher telling me not to take it for GCSE are proof of that. Well SCREW YOU Mrs West – I’m going to keep drawing badly and pretending I’m not as bad as I am! Staging an intervention on last week’s show was Brynley Gibson, executive producer of Art Academy. Sadly I didn’t have time to take any of the Art Academy lessons, so these drawings are still utterly without merit. Sorry. Here’s what I did draw: In coloured pencil it’s A Plant from Plants vs Zombies In mixed […]

Music to Play Games by Too – Officially released.

December 22nd, 2011 Posted by

Several days ago actually but never mind. I just realised I had negletected to let you know it was now available. It costs £6.99 + postage and is available from Amazon here(http://tinyurl.com/ollcd2). That’s 13 tracks of wonderful exclusive (and inclusive hopefully) video game music to enjoy. Here’s some quotes from the One Life Left team. About it: “Where’s the track from Muse then, Derek? Other than that easily worth an unbeatable 7/10″ – Simon Byron “I like the way the CD spins, it makes me feel dizzy.” – Ann Scantlebury “This is even more musical than our celebrated Videogame Karaoke.” […]

One Life Left presents… Music to Play Games By Too

November 30th, 2011 Posted by

Okay so this doesn’t have a precise release date yet but I’d estimate a release around 15th of December. I know that’s leaving it a bit late but there have been a few technical difficulties along the way. Hopefully it will be out earlier. I’m putting this up to let you know what’s going to be on the CD. I’ll release some audio samples of it over the next couple of weeks. As mentioned on the show this is a compilation of music inspired by video games but not specifically video game sounding. This is not a chiptune compilation, though […]

Your words in our mouths

October 11th, 2011 Posted by

So here is a (literally) copyright-infringing which proves FOTS Cat Stevens is better than The Proclaimers. You get the idea. Send us your lyrics, we’ll put them through the karaoke super computer (by hand, we’ll have you know) and the OLL Team or anyone one of the night’s super special industry guests could be leading a crowd of literally hundreds through your verses and choruses. Imagine. Now stop imagining and do.

One Line Left Songlist: Help Required

August 1st, 2011 Posted by

As regular listeners will know, One Life Left is hosting an ill-advised / amazing [delete as applicable] karaoke evening at Nottingham Game City. Songs will have rewritten lyrics and we — and you — will sing them, culminating in a collective version of Do They Know It’s Christmas Time. Yes, we know. We know. We’d love for you to take some of the blame for this help us rewrite some of the songs. As a guide here are the sort of things we’d like to see on the playlist as we stagger around the venue:   Don’t Stop Believin’: Journey […]
