"Huzzah" landed in my lap after falling through a timewarp. A fast bowl from the Gentlemen v Players cricket match of 1865 struck it squarely on the "zz", sending it hurtling forwards through time.

I demand to know where and when the phrase 'Huzzah' popped into the vanacular?

Wikiwikiwahwah used it at the end of his bit in OLL epi 99.
I was born in 1965 and grew up in the UK watching at least 3 hourse of TV and never once heard the phrase 'Huzzah'. Not on the Generation game, not on The duchess of Duke street, not on Corrie, not on The A team, not on The Word, not even on Inspector Morse ("Huzzah Lewissssssss" was never uttered by the late Morse).
Since the Internet kicked in and especially since the last five or six years I've been hearing 'Huzzah' all over the place. Well, what happened to good old fashioned 'Hooray' (as in "hip hip Hoorayyyyyy"). I heard 'hooray' all the time then suddenly the whole world switches to Huzzah?

Where, when, how and why was Hooray un vernacularised and 'Huzzah' put in its place?
