One Life Left

Definitely the UK's favourite radio show (sort of) about videogames.

Commissioned by London’s award-winning Resonance 104.4 FM in early 2006, One Life Left was only meant to run for six episodes.

Take that, The Man because now, somewhere around one hundred and fifty episodes later, it’s in its seventh season and grown from humbling, terrified, fumbling beginnings into one of the station’s most valued shows.

Take THAT, The Man. Also take that, British radio standards.

One Life Left — s04e10 — #82 — Party Favour

No last-minute dramas this week, except that the show before ran on for three minutes into our slot and we were outraged. And which week is this? It’s week in which Simon organised one party but mostly One Life Left got excited about another one. It’s show #82.

And we’ll let the actual content of the show reveal itself to you, with all the features, news, reviews and music waiting for you like a girl on stage awkwardly awaiting carnal instruction. No spoilers, except to say we do actually genuinely talk quite a lot about videogames in this one. I know! We were quite surprised too. Especially Ann.

Most pertinently, the Facebook party page for people who want to join us at our once-a-year Christmas bash on Saturday 29th of November is here. If you are reading this then you are genuinely invited. We want to see you there. You will have fun.

Music in #82: Not a lot, really, but the one chiptune thing we played is worth it…

Sexy Synthesizer — Follow Me
Love Machine — Girls Aloud

I’ll leave you to guess which one that is. Oh, and two contributions from our friends, of course. No spoilers. See you next week!

Download episode #82 right here. Though really we’d prefer it if you did that through iTunes, right? We’re all about the hits. Tell your friends, etc.

Hello. My rusty french tells me that ‘One Life Left’ should be either ‘Encore une vie’ or ‘Une vie de plus’, as a solid translation for ‘one more life left’.

I’m reliably infomed by a GENUINE FRENCH, though, that a ‘better’ translation is ‘plus qu’une vie’, ‘une dernière vie’ or ‘la dernière vie’

I think you’re losing something in translation with those last ones, though: they translate more as ‘Last life’, which isn’t _quite_ right.

Best bet is ‘plus qu’une vie’, which I’d say conveys the meaning the best…

Arrgh. My update got eaten by the swearing monster, it seems.

Anyway, Other Ian was wrong. This Iain can use Google to confirm that yes, SFA were playable in Actua Football 2, but Mogwai were also playable in Actua Ice Hockey 2. What I can’t confirm, despite a quick browse is whether my memory is right about Robbie Williams being a player in FIFA 2000. Although even if he was, I won’t be held responsible for my actions if you play one of his records next week.
