One Life Left

Definitely the UK's favourite radio show (sort of) about videogames.

Commissioned by London’s award-winning Resonance 104.4 FM in early 2006, One Life Left was only meant to run for six episodes.

Take that, The Man because now, somewhere around one hundred and fifty episodes later, it’s in its seventh season and grown from humbling, terrified, fumbling beginnings into one of the station’s most valued shows.

Take THAT, The Man. Also take that, British radio standards.

Apologies in advance, obviously

Hello, purchase hi.

So, Ste’s in Japan which in radio terms means if One Life Left was a plane and Ste was a pilot, I’d have just slit his throat and I’m now heading towards the World Trade Centre in it.

In real terms, it means I’m hosting it on my own with Ann.

Anyone who listened last week will know I can’t “drive” a desk, and doing two things at once in the studio actually made my wrists tingle.

Ste’s emailed me some instructions which I thought I’d lost but have subsequently found. It’s been a hell of a morning. But the podcasting bit does seem a bit of a shag, and will only work if I remember to do stuff in the proper order. If Resonance had more than one studio, we’d be able to enjoy a fairly smooth changeover session. As it stands, it takes The Bike Show at least a minute to get their bikes and whores out of the studio, and a further 30 seconds or so to discard the drug paraphernalia. I am unlikely to remember to do everything.

I’m fully expecting it to be car crash radio, and I’m fully expecting it not to be podcast. So listen live, is what I’m saying – either on the radio if you’re in London, or over the Internet at

The “fun” starts at 7:00pm. We’ll be thrown off the shortly afterwards. Between the two, do keep us company by emailing

I’m a bit nervous about it all, in all honesty.

OLL Chat Room will be up again tonight too. We’ll keep you comfy Simon…

You can join your fellow OLL-listeners in the OLL chatroom. If you have an irc client you can join the channel #oll on the Chat-Solutions network. If you don’t have a client, you can use the following link to a webinterface that will take you directly into the channel.

Your lack of faith in your abilities to get the show podcasted on time means I’ve finally got around to setting up my auto-recorder-thingie – so I need never miss what happens between 7 and 8pm on Resonance…

    This could be legendary.

Biro, Scants, I just want to tell you both good luck. We’re all counting on you.

Lack of faith, or realism? I really am a fucking idiot, but thank God for Spencer, who has managed to salvage a recording.

  6. Spencer says:

What I didn’t tell you is that it wasn’t exactly a “recording” of the show, per se, but a faithful reenactment. Tom’s voice was harder to replicate, since I’m not as familiar with it, but I think I did a decent job.
