This is a video response to Ste’s previous post
…is how I feel about it. And like this:
And finally like this:
Superman that Blow
WRT the most recent show, Jonathan Blow surmises this is how Simon feels about Braid:
He is not far off.
Sabotage
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, “they” say. So that’s exactly what Team One Life Left decided to do when we discovered that our new timeslot would be directly following Resonance FM’s other standout programme “The Bike Show”.
If you’ve listened to OLLs04e02 (as Internet TV pirates will refer to it), you will know that we pretend we’re really great mates with our audio neighbour. The reality couldn’t be further from the truth: before we entered the studio last night, we decided to let their tyres down.
Take that, The Bike Show, you eco-warrioring pussies!
Tune in next week when we’ll be really nice to them on air, but will later run them over in our CARS.
One Life Left — s04e02 — #74 — Second Hand
One minute of our new best friends, The Bike Show, and then…

A rambling preamble in lieu of the one that we can’t do now we’re back on Resonance: you know, knowing your own mind isn’t as easy as it sounds. You need to know something about everything. But there are lots of everythings in the world and you’re expected to have something to say about them all. Sometimes you already hold an opinion on something, sometimes the opinion you hold emerges when you begin to speak and sometimes you arrive at the point where you need to have an opinion and you’re still none the wiser on what that opinion should be. Like, for example, when you’re considering second hand games, or zoo animals, or whether you should go to the park alone.
ENOUGH. The second episode of series two was plagued by technical problems most of which have mysteriously vanished for the podcast. If you are that hot for awkward silences, miscued tracks and giggles I suggest you tune in for the live broadcast (7pm, Monday evenings, Resonance FM). Some things can’t be fixed in post: there is no still no telephone guest so if you’re tuning in for the promised hot phone chat you’ll have to wait until next week. And we still don’t talk about games enough.
Songs for #74:
Kickle’s Processional — The Depreciation Guild
Arkanoid 1999 (2000 Remix) — Chris Abbott
TLC / No Scrubs — Copy
Breaking Out (Demo) — The Protomen
You only have three days left to vote. We are not going to win this vote without some kind of Titanic effort, so go find a cruiseship and crash it into iceberg. Metaphorically. If you loved us you’d do it for real. We’d do it for you.

One Life Left s04e02 TONIGHT
Tonight, on One Life Left!
Simon!
Ste!
Ann!
No guest because he’s dropped out with a hangover! But that will pressure us into using the phones for the first time this season! Possibly! Exclamations!
Also music, features, reviews, all on Resonance 104.4FM from 7PM (click there or here to listen live), and podcast a few hours after that.
Why Nintendo are winning the console war
And I guess this is why all the kids are shanking each other up on the streets. Oh videogames.
In other news, I had a dream last night that instead of going to the GMAs I went to the Mercury Music Prize. I was really angry because after I realised I was at the wrong prize (which we weren’t even nominated for!) I didn’t have time to get changed, so I had to turn up in trainers. Hopefully this is not an omen.
Please vote for us to win best broadcast so we don’t lose out to Elbow. That would be really embarrassing.
Ann
One Life Left — s04e01 — #73 — Wave Hello
Kick, punch, you all remember…

Hello. We’re back. It has been too long, except it’s like we’ve never been away.
News. Music. Reviews. Five features. Three overexcited presenters. Gossip and rumour, salacious implication, momentary regret, six shrugged shoulders and quickly on to something different.
Today: new engineers, new babies, new plans, the red ring of death, Atari, Nottingham GameCity, songs to fall in love to and repeated pleas for you all to go and vote for us in the GMAs. Do that, do that now. We are the rank outsiders but it would be excellent if we beat the BBC, and all that might take is a couple of clicks from you.
Enough. Click below to listen, go on iTunes or Libsyn to subscribe, explore the new website and make use of our split RSS feeds, send us an email and join our Facebook. This is One Life Left. We are back, and we will be hanging out with you for a while, if you don’t mind. Tell the world.

Welcome / Welcome Back
Hello all,
Welcome to One Life Left. We’re just preparing for our relaunch at 7PM this evening. Uh oh.
First: if you don’t know what the show is, this should help.
The site’s new — please excuse our dust; if you can help us repaint the place we’d appreciate it — but quite soon it’ll fill up with all kinds of ex-ex-exclusive audio / blog content. And the latest podcast, of course, which will be hopefully be here from this evening. In the meantime, why not have a poke around the old site, visit the One Life Left forum or subscribe to the podcast on iTunes and trawl through our audio archives?
We even have a Facebook account because we’re so very modern.
Those of you who listen live: there’s a One Life Left chat room here which should have some users around 7PM. Play nicely!
Wish us luck.

One Life Left Returns!
Europe’s favourite Videogame Radio Show begins Fourth Season tonight, promises music, laughter, vaguely-related videogame stuff
Listen up, lifers: One Life Left makes its eagerly anticipated return to air tonight, broadcasting live from 7PM on Resonance 104.4FM. Presented by Ste Curran (Creative Director at Zoë Mode), Simon Byron (Director at Barrington Harvey) and Ann Scantlebury (unemployed, looking), the publicly-acclaimed programme uses videogames as a starting point for discussion, debate and pretty awful puns, and mixes videogame music with specially recorded mini-features from the OLL cast of secret games industry contributors. The show’s return means new content from favourites like the doyouinverts, Craig ‘The Rage’ McClelland and Derek Williams’ Free Market Economy, as well as a host of brand new stars in the making too.
“We’re so excited to be back, and not just because that means we’ve finally settled last season’s lawsuits,” commented Ste Curran. “We’ve got the finest contributor line up we’ve ever had and a new, earlier timeslot in which to fail at avoiding swearing. Anyone with a radio in London should look forward to a new run of Monday evenings full of gaming gossip and mild technical incompetence!”
Listeners outside of London won’t have to wait too long for their next fix of the puerile threesome, either. The long running radio show is podcast the following day at www.onelifeleft.com, and regularly topped the iTunes rankings for downloads through Apple’s portal during its third season. Its online success brought a nomination for Best Broadcast at the Games Media Awards, an award the team are very excited about.
“We intend to win this award,” commented Simon Byron. “Please go to our site and vote for us. We have no problems with using Ann as a bribe.”
Finally, if digital interaction isn’t enough, fans will soon have another chance to party with One Life Left in real life. Following successful broadcasts from Develop, Nordic Game and the Edinburgh Festival, the team are planning something very special at Nottingham Game City.
“I’m confused and terrified,” commented Ann Scantlebury. “And my Xbox 360 Elite has stopped working sad smiley face.”
Details on that later; Curran, Scantlebury and Byron are all available for quotes / comments / interviews right now. Use the contact form on the One Life Left website and they’ll call you straight back.
