“No Future!” sang some pop group, once, and maybe they were singing about OLL #124, where Wired.co.uk’s News Editor Duncan Geere joins the team to talk about what happens next. What happens next? The same thing as last time, apparently, but in 3D!!!!! OMG.

S04e04 bonus content:

I wonder if the actual, genuine bonus content on other things like DVDs comprises stuff they forgot to do:

#1: I forgot to mention the two conflicting headlines on pages one and two of this week’s MCV. On the front page: ‘Retail is accelerating its own demise with price war’; on page two: ‘Retail hails 360 price slash‘. So the industry is sick of shops discounting stuff, but is fucking over the moon when cheaper stuff sells more. I should have asked Gibbo for her news views.

#2: My Advances Wars murder joke. Ste said I’m not allowed to say it, but this is the Internet and anything goes. That said, it isn’t really a joke, more of an observation. And that is: I wonder what Advance Wars unit the (alleged) murderer liked the most? It would have to be one which has a long movement range, but can only attack those immediately next to it. With hindsight, I’m not sure it would have been that funny.

#3: I also meant to mention my ongoing correspondence with Deb, from the Open Pandora project. I meant to mention this in the slim hope that, as an actual listener, she’ll take pity on my grovelling and send me an Open Pandora for free.

#4: I didn’t take any pictures of Gibbo! That would have got us a few more hits, that’s for sure.

Apologies, listener! I blame the lack of all of the above failing to appear in the Internet’s favourite FM-broadcast European radio broadcast in London on the stress of “driving” the “desk”. It was pretty terrifying, and genuinely made my wrists tingle.

One Life Left

One Life Left — s04e04 — #76 — Desk Job

In which Simon assumes control of the One Life Left radio bus, Ste cowers in the front seat and peers between his fingers and Ann makes out with the bad boys at the back.

Welcome to #76, in which three important announcements are made. We’ll blog them in detail later in the week but I don’t think it’s a spoiler to those announcements concern:

i) The WINNER of One Life Left’s most popular competition ever, to name a Beer at Nottingham Game City
ii) One Life Left’s amazing, unique, ill-advised event at Nottingham Game City
iii) Ste’s absence next week.

Which is why Simon’s driving the desk this week. To learn, you know. It wouldn’t be One Life Left if the preparation wasn’t ill-considered and last-minute.

To alleviate the pressure / add to the complexity, we have a guest for the first time in Season 4. Ellie “Gibbo” Gibson returns to the airwaves to amuse, entertain and talk about videogames. We are lucky to have her. We (abruptly) welcome a new feature, too – ‘The Best Worst Games You’ve Never Played’ by Mathew Kumar. We’re looking for a jingle for that segment so if you can provide, get in touch. And the regulars are all present and correct too – poetry, gambling, chart musings and more.

Music this week:

The Suspense Is Killing Me – Boy 8-Bit
Shempi – Ratatat
Electric Touch (Mighty Mi / Stev1der Mix) – Kanye West v. MGMT
Toejam & Earl Bumpin’ OC Remix

Ok. See you soon!

Six boobs and a tit

Boobs throughout, tit at 1.24 and 1:53.

And to think my mother said I’d never get anywhere playing videogames…

Rock, Podcast, Shotgun

In an act of brazen mimicry that’s testing our patience to the limit, our best friends over at PC gaming website Rock, Paper, Shotgun have just started a podcast. Walker and Gillen have both contributed to OLL before and will do again in the future, once they’ve finished going on about comics and television. Now they’ve branched out on their own. We all remember how that worked out for Stephen Gateley.

STILL. We’re right behind them (not like that) and if you like PC games (keywords: terrain, hentai, Columbine) you owe it to yourself to give it a chance. It could easily become your third favourite podcast, after us and The Bike Show.

More gifts from F@keaddress

It turns out my present wasn’t just a memory card — there were things ON that card. First, this message:

Happy birthday Ste.

I have included some music files in your card by way of a gift.

I do hope you like them. If not you could delete the files and take the card itself as your gift.

Second, a directory called ‘music’, inside which was some music. We’ll be playing that music on the next show for sure. Sweet!

And third, this artist’s impression of the gift that Ann would have received had we been around to open f@keaddress’ first attempt at sending us stuff in the post.

I hope someone at Resonance is wearing it with pride.

Thanks f@keaddress! Listeners, why not send us things? PRs! That goes for you too! Especially Simon’s sister, plz.

Gifts from F@keAddress

SPOILER WARNING: Those of you who’ve not yet listened to the “brilliance” that is S04E03 should do so now, as the following blog contains pictures of TEAMOLL opening the presents they were sent from a correspondent known only as F@keAddress.

Here’s Ste Curran holding up his gift. He hasn’t told us what’s on it yet. I hope he does do that.

Strictly speaking, this isn’t Ann opening hers. It’s her reading the letter accompanying the gifts. But my camera was being all slow and that so we didn’t get any of her holding up her Happy Stalking! card. You’ll have to pretend that this is it, and that she’s crying.

Here’s me using one of my digits to represent how much I like boobs. We’ve had to hide the boobs here because Taliah reads the blog and she doesn’t know what they are yet. But rest assured: they are really very fine boobs.

We love presents. If you want to send us presents, we’ll open them on air and put pictures up on the Internet. And as those pictures will feature Scants, it’ll be like win/win for us all.

One Life Left

One Life Left — s04e03 — #75 — Saddle Up

Yo, tough guys the broadcast / podcast world over, know this: One Life Left has never been afraid of making enemies. Our independence allows us that freedom. We can say what we want about whoever we want and still be sure we’ll continue to not receive free things in the post (please send us free things in the post). We’re a videogame show with principles. Our main principle is that because we don’t have the opportunity to sell out you can be sure that we haven’t.

So yeah, we’re tough. Last week on the blog, though, we chose to pick on the wrong people. We stepped outside our gaming comfort zone and chose to pick on men with bikes. And this week, The Bike Show acted exactly how you might imagine The Bike Show would: with grace and humour, inviting us on to the last five minutes of their (professionally produced, diligently prepared, also podcast) show. You join us just after our unexpected backie, three presenters giddy from a magical bike ride through Resonance FM.

So, allow us a moment to calm down and then enjoy the news, the features, the music (see below) and the epic, astonishing letters section featuring actual post. And enjoy the post-production too, since this is a recut of Season 4, Episode 3, largely deglitched. If you feel like you’re missing out you should really tune in live but actually, this time the podcast listeners get the better deal: the new feature (no spoilers) is here in full, the victim of a dodgy last-minute CD burn in the FM-broadcast show. It is excellent.

With luck we’ll have another new feature next show and our first guest of the season. Maybe even the Nottingham announcement we’ve been teasing you with for some time. Do enter the competition, and write to us using our contact form or at the address in the show — your letters are consistently brilliant and make us happy.

Music: Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle / the Mountain Goats and Kaki King
PUBLIKUM / Stay Ali
Magical 8bit Tour / YMCK
Street Fighter II Sly Thai Guy OC Remix / Kaijin

All to be added to our music links page imminently. Do let people know about the show if you think they should know about the show and keep checking the blog for irregular / nonsenseical updates. We’ll see you in a week.

The New Site…

…is getting there. Apologies for our ugly faces: that bit is PLACEHOLDER. We are now accepting replacement banners which will rotate in and out, randomly. They should be something to do with the show (and if you want they can link to various parts of the site). Size is 174×550 pixels. That’s all! Show later today — 7PM, Resonance FM, all-new features / competitions / letters / nonsense. See you there. Metaphorically.

2 blogs for the price of 1

In these times of economic crisis I thought I should be thrifty with my blogging, so this is an amazing dual post. ‘Amazing’, I think.

POINT ONE: RE – s04e02

This it what happens when you combine unemployment, moving house and The Sims:

That is my actual new flat, in Sims form. Nice, huh? It was absolutely a worth while task and totally worth nearly two hours of my unemployed time.

Therefore I give Sims: Creation 7/10

POINT TWO: RE – Other business.

I found out yesterday that I have been shortlisted for a 4talent award here: click on me (maybe Ste will make that a link or something. I don’t know how.)

I’m up for Off-Air Radio, and believe me, after all my work on OLL, Off-Air Radio is something I know a lot about. So, my current mood is ‘Hooray!’, but by the end of October I could be Three Time Award Losing Radio Presenter Ann Scantlebury. That’s pretty special.

Hello from Taliah

(Simon here, currently, about to hand over to Taliah… now):

hi   as   we   all   no   my   name   is   taliah

(Simon here again: that took about two minutes, and I’ve got to go. We’re just testing she can blog from home. Which it appears she can. So expect more gaming insight from Taliah soon. Bye!)
